We built it as a custom AI agent for our CEO's writing agency. It worked so well, we turned it into a product.
The challenge
Content Marketing Partners runs professional writing teams producing deep, cited content for clients in accounting, financial services, and professional industries. Generic AI tools were problematic — they fabricated facts, ignored sources, and had no memory of a client's voice or standards.
Mike Azzara, CMP's founder, needed AI that would cite real sources, stay grounded in actual research, maintain each client's editorial standards, and work for an entire team — not just one person at a time. Nothing on the market did that.
The solution
We built CMP a series of custom AI agents: El (short for Eleven), a writing assistant trained on CMP's editorial standards and each client's references, and Luka — named for Luca Pacioli, the inventor of double-entry accounting — a domain expert trained on accounting and financial concepts.
El increased the productivity of every member of CMP's team while improving the depth of research and quality of output. Luka became the team's go-to resource for questions on everything from mundane accounting rules to concepts like materiality and portfolio theory — cited, grounded, and always available.
What we built for CMP became the foundation of Kal-El: a platform that gives any professional writing team the same capabilities — shared projects, team style guides, source-grounded drafts, and AI that doesn't make things up.
